Hey Google (Alexa/Siri) Bedroom Lights Off!

Smart lights in your bedroom? Just ask and get the lights off with a simple voice command like, “Hey Google, bedroom light off,” “Alexa, bedroom light off,” or “Hey Siri, bedroom light off.” They allow you to regulate your lights without having to get out of your bed, which improves your night experience.

How to get it done

1. Select and Download the Controller App
  • Choose Your Voice Assistant (Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri)
  • Steps to Download:
    • The Appropriate application could be found in the app store of your device.
    • Sign up, or sign in, if you already have a username and password.
2. Select and Set Up the Device
  • Type: Smart switch or smart plug to control the current light in the bedroom.
  • Check out smart switches or sockets that are compatible with your selected voice assistant.
  • If you are getting Siri, you ought to get only HomeKit-compatible products like Philips Hue.
  • Setup Steps:
  • Plug your conventional bulb in a smart plug.
  • Make sure that the device is compatible with Wi-Fi or Zigbee - if you choose Zigbee, you will need a bridge/hub device that is compatible with the controller
3.  Automate Alerts Using Your Voice Assistant App:
  • Steps to Connect and Automate:
    • Launch the application of your choice (Google Home, Amazon Alexa or Apple Home).
    • Place the smart device in pairing mode [depending on the device, refer to the user manual of the device].
  • Add the Device:
    • In the app, click on the icon “Add Device”.
    • This feature guides the smart device through connecting the smart device to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Name Your Device:
    • In the smart switch or plug, name it Bedroom Light in the app.
    • Connect the device with the application and set the chosen one as the bedroom.
  • Test the Voice Commands:
    • Use your voice assistant to confirm functionality
    • Address it, “Hey Google, turn off the bedroom light.
    • Or, “Alexa, bedroom light off.
    • Or, “Okay, Siri, turn off the bedroom light.

Important Notes

  • For Zigbee devices make certain you possess the required hub device which is compatible with your selected controller (i.e. Tuya zigbee hub if using Tuya switches,..etc)
  • Ensure the smart light or smart plug you select is compatible with your chosen voice assistant (Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, or Siri).
  • If you choose Zigbee or Z-Wave devices, ensure you have the respective bridge or hub.
  • You can install smart light, floor lamp on smart plug, or smart switch to control your existing lights.
