Get Instant Alerts for Potential Water Leaks in Your Home!

Desired Outcome: You receive immediate notifications on your mobile when a water leak is detected, allowing you to take prompt action to prevent damage.

How to get it done:

01. Select and Download the CONTROLLER:

We use the Tuya Smart App for this example. Or you can choose your own controller from here (ensure it is capable of achieving the desired automation).

Download the Tuya Smart app.

02. Select the SENSOR:

  • Type: Water leak sensor.
  • We recommend a Zigbee water leak sensor for better connectivity and battery durability. However, a compatible WiFi sensor can still work.
  • For a Zigbee water leak sensor, you need to have a Zigbee Bridge (hub/gateway) or buy it separately.
  • In this example, we will use the Tuya Water Leak Sensor that is compatible with the Tuya Controller.
  • You can browse different types of water leak sensors from here.
  • Place the sensor near potential water leak sources (e.g., under sinks, near water heaters, in basements).

03. Automate using the controller app:

  • Open the Tuya Smart app.
  • Add the Zigbee Bridge first (if applicable): Ensure the Zigbee bridge power is on and in pairing mode.
  • Click "Add Device" and you should be able to add the Zigbee bridge.
  • Make sure the water leak sensor is in pairing mode and follow the same steps to add the sensor.
  • Create a scene where the trigger device is the water leak sensor and the action is to send a notification.
    • Click on "Smart" at the bottom of the app, then click on the "+" icon to create a new automation.
    • Select the water leak sensor.
    • Set the trigger as detecting water leakage.
    • Set the action to send a notification.
    • Save and test your automation.

    Expected Time and Cost:

    • Time: 10 minutes
    • Cost: ~$30 (sensor and optional Zigbee bridge)

    DIY Difficulty Level:

    • Easy

      Important Notes:

      • If you choose Zigbee sensors/devices, ensure you have a Zigbee bridge. Purchase one separately if needed.
      • For Z-Wave sensors/devices, ensure you have a Z-Wave hub/controller.
      • For Matter/Thread devices, ensure compatibility with your existing setup and controller.
      • Ensure the Zigbee sensor/device is close to other connected Zigbee devices to maintain reliable connectivity, as they work in a mesh network.
      • Ensure your Wi-Fi network reaches the location of the sensor for reliable connectivity.
